Sonji Myles been appointed the new interim chief executive officer of Cayman Islands utilities regulator OfReg.

OfReg’s board of directors, in a press release issued Friday, announced Myles’ appointment, replacing Peter Gough who had served as interim CEO since March 2022.

There was no indication of the reason for the sudden change in leadership nor was there any comment from Gough on his departure.

The Cayman Compass reached out to Gough for comment and is awaiting his response.

The OfReg release simply stated the board appointed Myles, who “brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership within the organisation”.

The release continued, “with his [Myles’s] deep understanding of the utility sectors and strategic vision, the Board said it was confident in his ability to guide OfReg as the organisation continues to improve and modernise its operations”.

Samuel Jackson, chair of the board, said Myles “is a vital part of our leadership team, and his appointment as Interim CEO reflects our confidence in his abilities to lead the Office effectively through this transition”.

“We are excited about the future of OfReg and remain steadfast in our commitment to the community and industry by ensuring efficient and effective utility regulation,” he added.

Myles, who served as OfReg’s executive director of information, welcomed the appointment.

“There is much work to be done and we look forward to the challenge of protecting consumers by ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Cayman Islands critical national utilities infrastructure. We are determined in our remit to encourage investment, innovation and fair competition in all sectors that we regulate, with the dedication and passion that defines OfReg and what we do,” he said.

The board, speaking on Gough’s tenure, said, along with the entire OfReg team, it was grateful to the outgoing interim CEO.

“We thank Peter for his dedicated service … He has been an integral part of OfReg for the past two years, contributing meaningfully to the organisation’s growth and success,” Jackson said in the release.
