After missing its June deadline, the launch of Cayman’s new Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman jobs portal has now shifted further down the line, with no official start date formalised.

The jobseekers platform was hit with several delays, including an interruption from Hurricane Beryl’s passage earlier this month, WORC said in response to Cayman Compass queries on the status of the new online job advertisement portal.
The portal is set to replace the now defunct JobsCayman portal after that online platform was scrapped back in May.
WORC confirmed that the new jobs advertisement platform is still not ready for public use and its overall cost is yet to be completed.
The beleaguered JobsCayman platform had been criticised by employers and potential employees as being slow and difficult to navigate. The portal had been use for handling payments, job seeker and employer registrations, the posting of job vacancy ads, and job applications.
Last year, WORC Director Jeremy Scott, in an interview with the Compass, said the JobsCayman portal would be discontinued and replaced “with a new design, a new facelift” with the aim to make it more customer friendly.

While the new online job ad system has progressed from the testing phase to production deployment and readiness, WORC says it faced several hurdles that have hampered its official launch.
“We anticipate launching the jobs portal within the next two weeks. While we are not providing an exact date at this moment, this timeline allows us to complete the final preparations and ensure a smooth transition to the new system,” WORC said in an emailed comment to the Compass.
It said the delay in the launch can be attributed to a combination of factors.
“While we have faced and addressed several unforeseen challenges, including a recent storm that caused some delays, the complexity of data migration has also required additional time to ensure accuracy and integrity,” WORC said.
It explained that as part of its testing process, it identifies and addresses any issues that arise, and this often necessitates further regression testing, which is essentially running tests after every change to ensure that it does not cause any breaks in the software.
“This is a process that takes time but is essential to ensure the robustness and reliability of the portal as best as possible,” WORC said.
It added that crossing into the production deployment and readiness phase “marks a significant milestone in the project, bringing us closer to the launch”.
The production deployment phase involves setting up the portal in “a live environment, ensuring all systems are functioning correctly, and preparing for the official go-live”, it said.
“Each stage has been managed to ensure that the portal meets the necessary standards of performance and reliability. We are now in the final stages of production deployment and operational readiness,” it added.
WORC says the new portal will not only replace the previous JobsCayman, but will enable the department to make continuous improvements.
“This new portal will allow us to make ongoing enhancements, ensuring that it remains a valuable and effective tool for our users,” it said.
