A female driver is being treated at hospital for “serious injuries” following a lunchtime collision that prompted the temporary closure of the South Sound Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 12:14pm, police said in a brief statement.

Police and other emergency services responded to the report of a single vehicle collision along South Sound Road in the vicinity of the Red Bay Dock. The fire service, police said, had to free the vehicle’s lone occupant, who was then transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The roadway was temporarily blocked as a result of the collision, however, it has now been re-opened.

The collision is being investigated by the police.
