The Cayman Field Hockey Club sent a men’s and women’s team to the Tampa Tour tournament in Florida, from 26-17 Oct., where they earned wins in competitive games.
The Cayman women’s team got off to a winning start, opening the tournament with an impressive 5-0 victory. The following games were tightly contested, with the team narrowly losing 1-0 in the next two matches.
Undeterred, they came back strong on Sunday, defeating Tampa 2-1, which secured their spot in the semi-finals, where they contested in a hard-fought match. Despite a valiant effort, they were defeated by New York Islanders.
“The ladies’ journey to the semi-finals and their remarkable resilience were a testament to their dedication and growth,” Cayman Field Hockey Club told the Compass in a statement.
The men got Cayman back to winning ways, claiming a decisive 3-0 win in their opening game.
They dropped their second game before drawing in their third, and concluded their tournament run with a loss, though leaving a lasting impression.
The Cayman Field Hockey Club said it was “incredibly proud of both teams, who brought their dedication and passion to every game.
“The club extends a heartfelt congratulations to each player for their hard work and commitment on the field.”
