More than 30 performers showcased an evening of glitz, show-stopping dance and iconic music featured in award-winning films in ‘Spotlight on Hollywood’, at Harquail Theatre on 8-9 Nov.
The shows were held in support of Jasmine, Cayman’s only dedicated hospice and palliative care provider.
Under the direction of Arek Nicholson and with choreography by Monika Lawrence, audience members stepped into the world of Hollywood glamour as talented dancers from UCCI, the Singrays a cappella group and other local singers journeyed through songs from the movies.
Popular hits from the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’, ‘New Hollywood’ and the ‘Blockbuster Era’, were featured, including, ‘It’s Raining Men,’ ‘I Have Nothing,’ ‘Climb Every Mountain,’ ‘Que Sera-Sera,’ and ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’.
“The cast of Spotlight on Broadway brought enthusiastic audiences to their feet three nights in succession at the Harquail Theatre as they performed popular numbers from award-winning movies,” production manager Kerrie McMillan told the Cayman Compass.
“There are many moving ‘behind the scenes’ parts to a stage production, vocals, choreography, costumes, props, lighting, sound, backstage crew, marketing, front of house, et cetera … but the performers are the ones people remember. I couldn’t be prouder of them and everyone who was involved in making ‘Spotlight on Hollywood’ a huge success,” she said.
McMillan added, “I couldn’t have wished for a better performance from the cast and dancers. Everyone has volunteered their time for months and it paid off. We have an amazing amount of talent in Cayman and our cast willingly share their talent to raise funds and awareness for Jasmine.”
Jasmine is a non-profit which provides support to anyone with a serious illness free of charge. It relies on the generous support of the community for funding.
Next up for the organisation is its annual Light Up a Life event on 26 Nov., at 62 Forum Lane, Camana Bay, to gather to remember loved ones with memorial stars, a candle-lighting ceremony, and music by the Cayman Youth Choir and National Choir.
