A 63-year-old visitor from the United States died Monday afternoon after getting into difficulties in a hotel pool in East End.

People at the pool pulled the woman from the water after she lost consciousness, said police, who responded to a report of a person in distress at the hotel on the Queen’s Highway shortly after 2:20pm.

The RCIPS said it was reported that the woman had encountered difficulties when swimming in the hotel pool and had lost consciousness. People nearby helped her out of the water and contacted emergency services.

The woman was transported by ambulance to George Town Hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
