A 30-year-old North Side resident remains in police custody after police allegedly recovered a loaded gun and a quantity of cocaine while at a local plaza in the early morning hours of Friday, 13 Dec.
Police, in a statement Friday afternoon, said the incident happened just before 3:30am when the Firearm Response Unit attended Dolphin Plaza on Eastern Avenue.
Officers stopped and searched a man “behaving suspiciously”, the police statement said. They recovered a loaded handgun during a further search of the surrounding area.
“A quantity of white powdery substance resembling cocaine was subsequently recovered from this person,” police added.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as drug related offenses.
Officers also detained a second man, aged 28, of Bodden Town, at the plaza on suspicion of obstructing police.
He was subsequently bailed as investigations into this matter continues.
