A sunken canoe with no one on board sparked a tri-service emergency response early on Friday morning.
Coastguard, the fire service and police raced to the scene after reports of a vessel in distress off East End and a search-and-rescue mission was launched, including a police helicopter.
The search was carried out after emergency services found the craft submerged in waters off the Queen’s Highway just after 7am.
It was called off at about 12:30pm after search teams were unable to trace anyone who may have been connected with the canoe.
Gas cylinders washed ashore were also recovered after a search of the shoreline.
