An American Airlines flight to Grand Cayman on Friday morning returned to Miami International Airport after a burning smell was reported in the passenger cabin.
Flight AA1300, which departed Miami at 10:19am, turned around over the Florida Keys and landed back at the airport about 40 minutes later.
A passenger, Ranulf Scarbrough, told the Compass the captain had announced that the plane was returning to MIA due to a “burning smell in the cabin”.
He said the aircraft was met by a fleet of fire engines when it landed, and all passengers and crew disembarked.

“All passengers and crew are safe,” Scarbrough said.
Passengers were given no explanation on what had caused the burning smell, he added, but have been told that the plane was now “out of service”, and that another aircraft was being located to bring them to Grand Cayman.
According to Miami International Airport’s flight information website, the flight has been rescheduled to depart for Cayman at 1:14pm.
The Compass has reached out to American Airlines for comment.
