The Cayman Islands Netball Association has officially launched their 2025 season following a successful Corporate/Club Mixed League Rally on Saturday, 1 Feb., at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex courts.
This year, the association introduced four corporate squads, which joined the preseason rally that consisted of five club teams.
All nine squads had a crack at one another before the finale, where All Stars claimed victory. Rising Stars took second, followed by Strikers. However, while competitiveness was on full display, the event also featured fellowship.
“It’s about encouraging participation. We had persons who never knew how to play and they came, and they’re having fun and that’s what this league is about,” CINA’s Lyneth Monteith told the Compass.
Though the tournament serves as a way to prepare club players for the season ahead, it also offers opportunities for new talent to join the league.
“We are also going to continue with rallies every three months for the corporate [teams], so we can keep that interest. But we are going to be asking those … teams if they would like to come into the open league,” Monteith added.
Faith Crooks, newly appointed president of the Cayman Islands Netball Association, confirmed that out of the four teams, one has committed to playing in the upcoming league, with CINA looking to recruit more.
“We are looking forward to other corporate teams doing the same thing,” Crooks told the Compass.
“There are benefits to being a part of the Cayman Islands Netball Association and we are hoping to go out and try to encourage more companies to join.”
