More than 50 students, faculty and guests gathered in the Cascade Room at the University College of the Cayman Islands recently for the second instalment of the Walkers Spotlight Series, titled ‘Financial Services and Careers in the Sector’.

The session offered an inside look at the Cayman Islands’ financial services industry and showcased the diverse career pathways available, from legal practice to technology, according to a press release.

Four panellists from Walkers – Thea Maitland, associate; Brian Ryan, vice president, Walkers Professional Service; Felicia Deslandes, head of HR Felicia Deslandes; and Harley Bennett, senior IT support analyst – spoke at the event. All four speakers are UCCI alumni who returned to campus to share candid insights on their professional journeys, the skills that set them apart, and the importance of lifelong learning in an increasingly digital marketplace.

“Seeing the Cascade Room at capacity was an incredible vote of confidence in Cayman’s young talent,” said Layla Eden, learning and development manager at Walkers, in the release. “Our alumni speakers proved that global careers can, and do, start right here in Cayman. Walkers is committed to opening doors, mentoring students, and driving innovation across the sector.”

Echoing that sentiment, Belinda Blessitt Vincent, UCCI’s acting vice president and provost said, “Partnerships like the Walkers Spotlight Series are integral to the University College’s mission. When industry leaders invest their time and expertise on campus, students can envision their future with clarity and confidence. Last night’s full house underscores the appetite our learners have for hands-on guidance.”

The Walkers Spotlight Series continues to bridge the gap between academic excellence and industry expertise, creating pathways for Cayman’s emerging professionals to thrive in the global financial services arena.
