Electric bike and scooter owners have been warned to tighten security after a spate of thefts.
Police said they logged “multiple reports” of thefts of the machines in George Town and advised owners to take steps to protect their property.
A spokesman said people should use locks and other security devices because e-bikes and scooters were “light and can be easily relocated”.
He added, “Attaching them to solid, stationary structures, using a security lock – a U lock or chain lock – is often enough to prevent thieves from making off with them.”
Battery locks, which disable powerpacks if they were stolen and motion alarms that go off if a machine was moved, were also useful, said police.
The spokesman said location tracker tags could also be attached to bikes to make it easier to trace them if they were taken.
General theft protection, such as CCTV cameras around homes, proper lighting and keeping e-bikes and scooters in busy locations and varying spots where you park were also useful for theft prevention, said police.
Serial numbers should be written down after purchase as it makes machines easier to identify and photographs should be taken, particularly of any identifying marks.
The spokesman said that several e-bikes had been recovered at a house in George Town.
