Many may remember seeing the first iconic Coca-Cola holiday truck advert in 1995, but few may have envisaged that it would be the start of a holiday ritual, signalling that Christmas is just around the corner.
The convoy of brightly lit trucks on the screen, accompanied by the definitive festive earworm song ‘Holidays are coming’, ushered in the Christmas season.
Soon, Coca-Cola transformed this idea from television magic, to real-life trucks travelling through US cities, and, by 2001, across the Atlantic to Europe.
The sight became a vital part of pre-Christmas excitement, and in 2019, that excitement spread to Cayman’s shores.
CAYMAN’S COCA-COLA PARADE
Now in its sixth year, Cayman’s Coca Cola Santa Parade has become a modern staple of the local Christmas calendar, marking the beginning of the festive period and bringing joy to all who attend along the route.
On 16 Dec., the truck, festooned with lights, weaved its way through Grand Cayman’s streets, with Santa on board, handing out gifts, Coca-Cola giveaways and holiday cheer alongside his elves and the Coca-Cola team.
Adding to the wonder, a long line of shimmering trucks and vehicles, including the Jeep 345 club, followed the truck, adorned with their own lights to add to the festive vision.
“The Coca-Cola Christmas Parade is one of our favourite modern traditions and we are incredibly grateful to our community for coming out year after year—your attendance, enthusiasm, and shared joy are what make this celebration so special,” says Jeremy Ebanks, commercial director at CDG.
