The front page of the 22 Dec. 1975 Caymanian Compass showed the governor’s Christmas message. In addition to extending greetings to all Caymanians at home and abroad, he said, “There have been easier years than 1975 for many but our community still has much to be thankful for. As we usher in 1976, we stand on surer ground than many other countries … and we can face the future with the optimism born of past endeavour and experience.” He ended by wishing all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

The top photo on the home page was of Rotary’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting.

Another article stated that the Galleon Beach Hotel Manager Dave Mitchell was arrested and charged with being armed with a dangerous and offensive weapon, causing grievous bodily harm.

A further article described a peaceful demonstration by about 1,000 Caymanians, who marched from the old Public Works Department compound to the government building to express their grievances to the governor. The crowd also asked that the governor issue a special order that the renewal of licences, taxes and duties remain the same or an extension of time granted. They closed by wishing “Season’s Greetings to His Excellency and family”.

The editorial discussed several topics. The first was to offer ‘Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year’ – continuing a 20-year slogan. In addition, the editorial wrote about proper employment and good living conditions are among the things that make people happy, and that the anticipation of a flow of business, now conducted in Bahamas, would be another Christmas present. The editorial also mentioned that 1976 is election year and that Radio Cayman was to start within the next couple of months.
People were also urged to drive safely. Additionally, the editorial mentioned that a financial expert said that the sweeping tax measures for 1976 is the “best Christmas present”, but only time would determine if this will be true. Cayman could also learn from the Bahamas’ errors in tourism, as well as in the finance industry.

There were many adverts related to Christmas and New Year’s specials. One for Grand Old House appeared on page 11.
