The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, announced the release of ‘Tourism Matters’, the third animated video series in the Chamber’s ‘Growth Matters’ public education series.
‘Tourism Matters’ delves into the vital role that tourism plays in Cayman’s economy, highlighting how it fuels job creation, supports local businesses, strengthens infrastructure and helps preserve Cayman’s unique cultural and natural assets.

“Tourism has a proven track record to stimulate economic growth in the Cayman Islands,” said Director of Tourism Rosa Harris in a press release, adding that the video series highlights how the benefits of tourism extend beyond airport activity and hotel room stays.
“The added value that compounds for those who serve the industry includes our artisans and chefs, our tour guides and taxi drivers,” Harris said. “Tourism positively impacts lives in every district across our islands.”
The video series reflects key strategies from the 2024 National Tourism Plan, with a special focus on the sector’s evolution – from traditional cruise arrivals to more sustainable, higher-value stayover experiences.
Featured themes include:
- Eco-tourism: Exploring nature-based destinations like the Mastic Trail and Colliers Wilderness Reserve
- Cultural tourism: Celebrating Cayman’s maritime history,
storytelling, local cuisine and arts - Agri-tourism: Promoting farm tours, food sustainability and farm-to-table experiences

In the press release, Wil Pineau, CEO of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, emphasised the importance of education and workforce development in strengthening Cayman’s tourism sector.
“Tourism Matters is designed to help students and the wider community better understand how tourism truly works and how it supports opportunity across our entire economy,” he said. “Through engaging animated characters and simple storytelling, the series explains the many career paths that exist within the industry – from hospitality and culinary arts to environmental stewardship, transportation, entrepreneurship and creative services.”
Pineau added, “As part of the Chamber’s advocacy pillar, Building a Future-Ready Workforce, this initiative helps young Caymanians see tourism as a dynamic sector with meaningful career opportunities. By making the message fun, accessible and easy to understand, we hope to inspire more Caymanians to explore the industry and play an active role in shaping the future of tourism in our islands.”
