Dear Editor
Considering the issues that are raised regularly about poor driving, multiple accidents and consequences, it is obvious that the issues are symptoms of a much deeper problem.
It tells me that our roads are used by expatriates (majority) and Caymanians (minority) who have a serious character flaw. What does their behaviour tell us? It tells us “I am selfish; I don’t care about you; Rules mean nothing to me, I won’t obey the rules I don’t want to obey; I am more important than you are.”
These are not traffic problems; these are character issues and symptoms and signs of something much bigger. These character flaws are behind all crime. I know it is easier to treat symptoms than treating the problem, but it isn’t effective to correcting the problem.
I appeal to all drivers to evaluate yourselves and start with addressing your character and habits. What pushes you to ignore the rules and people on the road? You have the main task in correcting the problem. Sadly, all government can do is treat the symptoms.
