Wednesdays are wellness days for members of Rotary Central Cayman Islands, when they hit the yoga mat, Pilates reformer, the pickleball court or the road for a 5K run.

Since 1 July last year, once a month, the club has been holding a ‘Wellness Wednesday’, launched under the leadership of its president, Steve Tippetts.

The club says the initiative was created “in recognition that healthy, resilient individuals are better equipped to lead, serve, and make a lasting impact in the community”.

Over the course of the year, the club says, Wellness Wednesday has been giving its members opportunities “to focus on physical fitness, mental wellness, personal development and fellowship”.

Activities include yoga, beach Pilates, reformer Pilates, community-sponsored 5K walk/runs, functional fitness training, full-body personal training sessions, pickleball, kickboxing, aqua aerobics, spin class and circuit training.

“The activities encouraged members to stay active, participate in new activities while also strengthening camaraderie within the club,” Rotary Central said in a press release.

In addition to the physical activities, the club welcomed expert speakers during its Tuesday evening meetings to discuss topics such as mindfulness, nutrition, sleep wellness, healthy posture and movement, cardiac health, burnout prevention and mental health awareness.

Another popular component of the initiative was the club’s ongoing ‘On Di Feeted’ step challenge, which saw more than 30 members participating in monthly walking competitions designed to encourage consistency, accountability and healthy habits.

The initiative also extended beyond the Cayman Islands. On 29 April, while attending the Rotary District Conference in Kingston, Jamaica more than 40 Rotarians from Cayman Islands clubs – including 13 members from Rotary Central – participated in an international Wellness Wednesday activity at Emancipation Park.

Rotary Central says it is committed to continuing its focus on wellness and resilience among members, with upcoming activities including water aerobics and a walking scavenger hunt.

“Through Wellness Wednesday, Rotary Central Cayman Islands demonstrated that service begins from within – by investing in the health and well-being of its members, the club strengthened its ability to serve the wider community with energy, compassion, and purpose,” the club said in its release.
