Elmslie Memorial United Church and Robert Young Memorial United Church recently hosted a weekend of appreciation activities in honour of Rev. L. Christopher Mason, Ann Marie Mason and their daughter, Chrysannae, recognising nine years of dedicated and faithful ministry to the congregations and wider community.
The celebrations began on Saturday, 30 May, with an Appreciation Dinner held at Elmslie Memorial United Church Hall. Approximately 130 congregants and adherents of the two churches gathered for an evening of fellowship, tributes, music, presentations and thanksgiving in recognition of Rev. Mason’s years of pastoral leadership and service.
On Sunday, 31 May, a special Service of Appreciation was held at Elmslie Memorial United Church before a packed congregation. The service featured musical selections, expressions of gratitude from church leaders, community representatives, youth and children’s ministries, and special presentations reflecting on Rev. Mason’s impact on church life and the wider community.
Rev. Mason began serving the congregations on 1 Sept. 2017, and continued to provide spiritual leadership, pastoral care, encouragement and community engagement throughout his tenure. During the service, speakers reflected on his compassionate ministry, faithful preaching and support during times of joy and sorrow, and his commitment to encouraging the spiritual development of both congregations.
As part of the appreciation events, Rev. Mason and his family were presented with tokens of gratitude, including love offerings from both churches, a commemorative painting and pictorial presentation celebrating cherished memories from their years of ministry.
The congregations expressed sincere thanks to Rev. Mason and his family for their service, leadership and unwavering commitment, while offering prayers and blessings as they transition to a new area of ministry.
“Your influence on our faith and community will not leave us at your departure,” one tribute during the service reflected.
Elmslie Memorial United Church and Robert Young Memorial United Church extend heartfelt gratitude to all who participated in making the appreciation weekend a meaningful and memorable celebration.
