Representatives of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Port Authority and the Tourism Attraction Board met Friday to discuss the recent incidents of people jumping off the cliffs of Pedro bluff.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police said the meeting sought to find solutions to prevent further deaths at the site.
Two young men, 16-year-old Justin Henry and 21-year-old Adam Rankine, died in the week after Christmas jumping from the cliffs and drowning in the water.
“The meeting was very productive and a number of ideas and possible solutions were discussed, including continuing public education about the dangers of jumping off at the site,” said RCIPS Chief Inspector Frank Owens.
Police said the next step will involve the property owner, with the assistance of the government,.erecting barriers and ‘no trespassing’ signs as well as other signs advising of the dangers of being on or near the edge of the cliffs.
This work will be carried out through the assistance of Public Works and National Roads Authority and should begin in the coming week, police said.

It is so sad that these young people are risking their lives for a thrill. Now this pristine, rugged cliff will be defaced with signs and barriers. It probably will not dissuade these young people from their risky behavior, it may even tempt them more. I have visited that cliff on every trip to Cayman for the past 36 years. I feel sad that it will no longer be a beautiful spot to visit and enjoy the awesome beauty of the ocean. My prayers go out to their families.
