Praise of director unfounded

I am a little perturbed by the front page story on Wednesday, 25 January, and your supporting editorial on your wish to have Dr. Hoeksema continue as medical director at the HSA, a position for which he should never have been hired as I do not believe he has the clinical qualifications required or requested in the advertisements for the position.

I don not believe Dr. Hoeksema has the most relevant qualification required for such a position, which could command the respect of the other clinicians at the HSA, nor in my view, is his military experience of any relevance to the position at the HSA.

Furthermore, he was selected above a Caymanian who has the necessary clinical qualifications in direct violation of our Immigration Law.

I notice, with a faint smile, that in your front page story and editorial you have heaped your praise on him for matters, for which he was not responsible, such as the claim of the HSA that it has made a profit. The Caymanian CEO is responsible for the business and management aspect of the HSA, not Dr. Hoeksema. The medical director is responsible for clinical supervision.

Any visit to the HSA or discussion with patients will clearly indicate that he failed at clinical supervision, by the discontent amongst the clinically qualified doctors and the frequency of medical iatrogenic cases.

Sad you could not credit him with improvement in the areas of his responsibility such as medical audit, peer review or proper privileging according to credentials rather than personalities or promised support for him as medical director ad infinitum.

I trust that if a Caymanian is hired for the position your unearned support will be equal.
