Dead is Stacey-Ann Smith, 35-year-old labourer of Landport Way, Portsmouth in Portmore.
Operations officer for the St Catherine South Division, Superintendent Clive Blair said the woman was last seen alive almost a week ago.
“We learnt that she has been missing since Wednesday and although an odour was smelled, (the body) was not located until we were called today,” Mr. Blair told The Gleaner.
The police said the deceased returned from the Cayman Islands on Sunday, 29 January.
“In all my 20-odd years as a policeman, it is the most gruesome murder that I have ever seen. I mean the body was placed in a crocus bag and cemented in the wall,” Mr. Blair continued.
About noon yesterday, the police were called to the scene after a foul odour took over the community.
On the arrival of the police, the body was found buried.
The Gleaner was told it was in a section of the building which is under construction.
Investigators told The Gleaner that persons reportedly heard strange sounds coming from the yard. However, they thought nothing of it as construction had been taking place at the property.
Scores of residents converged on the scene and expressed shock and grief over the situation.
“It was last year January that five persons were killed in the community but this is more shocking to me as time was taken to bury the victim,” said resident Marjorie Anderson.
“I cannot understand what would have gone through another human being’s mind when you kill someone and then bury them. This is very cold,” said Portmore Mayor Keith Hinds.
Persons with knowledge of the sisters said the deceased and individuals in the household had been having disagreements over money.
The Portmore police, who are investigating, have yet to establish a motive for the murder.

It seems to me that such crimes are prevalent in Jamaica, Honduras, and other third world countries in that after they kill, they hide you, and no one tells the tale.
Makes me wonder about Anna Evans and Kerran Baker. Two ladies that went missing since last year, and no trace of them. God help us if that is the new way of crime, starting in the Cayman Islands. I could never think how anyone would be so cruel to another person’s family and love ones, to kill another person and hide them away.
Think of the families and love ones that have to deal with the burden of no closure, no justice, and sleepless nights.
My condolences to the family shaken by this terrible incident; especially, to the people who knew her personally on this island. May she rest in peace.
