New leaders for Adventist Conference

The Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has a new slate of leaders, each of whom were elected by a delegation of church members during a conference session on 27 January.

Elected to four-year posts were Pastor Shian O’Connor, president; Pastor Al Powell, executive secretary; and Mr. John Wesley, treasurer and stewardship director.

Appointed during the session were directors for the conference’s departments, which include Children’s Ministries; the Adventist Development and Relief Agency; Family Life; and Sabbath School. Also appointed were members of the conference’s executive council, which assists the leadership in making conference-wide decisions.

The elections for leadership positions were conducted during the conference’s third quadrennial session, held 25-27 January. In addition to delegates from all churches, the session was attended by a large delegation from the Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission, led by the union’s president, Dr. Leonard Johnson, vice president of the Inter-American Division. Pastor Abner De Los Santos also was present.

In the democratic structure of the worldwide Adventist church, conferences are overseen by unions. In turn, those unions are overseen by the 13 divisions of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is the global governing body.
