Missing man sought

Police continued to search Monday for 30-year-old Nathan Clarke, who was last seen on Saturday night, 25 February.

Mr. Clarke had been with his girlfriend, Lisa Beck, and three friends at Calico Jack’s on West Bay Road in Grand Cayman on Saturday before becoming separated from them on the beach as they were leaving the bar around 9pm.

Ms Beck said it was out of character for Mr. Clarke to disappear and not get in touch with her or his friends.

She said she and another friend were walking a little ahead of Mr. Clarke and when she turned around two minutes later, he had disappeared.

“We walked a bit further on, we thought maybe he’d gone to Tiki Beach … We got our friends and started calling him and walking up along the beach, checking the bushes and the roadside,” she said.

They also tried calling his cell phone, which he was carrying along with his wallet, but got no response and it seemed to be turned off, Ms Beck said.

They continued to search in the dark along the beach until 1am and then resumed searching at dawn on Sunday.

“I don’t have any idea what could have happened,” Ms Beck said. “It doesn’t make any sense. I don’t understand how he was right there … The first thing we thought was that maybe he had walked down the beach or maybe got a lift somewhere or that he had fallen asleep, but by the next morning there was no word and he had not been in touch.”

They also feared he may have been mugged and was lying unconscious in bushes along the beach, she said, and were afraid they were passing by him in the darkness.

Royal Cayman Islands Police Service personnel, including the K9 unit and Marine Unit, joined the search on Sunday afternoon for Mr. Clarke, who works as a teaching assistant at Cayman Prep.

“We’ve done everything since then to find him … There’s no way he would not have been in touch with us. He would know we would be really worried about him,” Ms Beck said.

Mr. Clarke, a British national who lives in West Bay, is described as a white male, about 5 feet 7 inches, with blonde hair, and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing beige swim shorts with no shirt.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts or who may have seen anyone fitting his description since Saturday night are asked to call police at 949-4222.

  2. Why is it that the government has no problem pouring tons and tons of money and time into using their helicoptor to look for the bad guys but won’t put a dime into finding a man who is helping educate Cayman’s young people?

  3. This morning I took part to the search for Nathan. I am here on vacation at my daughter’s but could not think of sitting by the pool knowing that this young man was missing. I do not know him but I felt like I had to do something to help. It is so hard to look for hours and come out with nothing. I hope that Nathan will be found safe and sound. I cannot imagine what his family and friends must be going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them. I hope to wake up tomorrow and find out that he is ok.
