There’s a family fun day planned on Seven Mile Beach this Saturday, 15 September, in celebration of Recovery Month.
Recovery Month is an occasion to celebrate and honour those individuals who have recovered from drug or alcohol abuse and addiction, and the family fun day is designed to promote healthy family activities, which are key in prevention.
Organised and hosted by the Counselling Centre at the Department of Counselling Services, the event is open to all families – and anybody can be a family, says Carole Athea, of the Counselling Centre – but those that have been affected by drug and/or alcohol addiction are particularly encouraged to attend.
The message being sent out this Recovery Month is that prevention works, treatment is effective, people recover: it’s worth it.
Taking place on Public Beach along Seven Mile Beach between 10am and 1pm in Grand Cayman, there will be free pizza and drinks, music, games for the children, volleyball and a catboat. There will also be a free prize draw, with all prizes being fun, family activities, including four free flights to the Sister Island of Cayman Brac, as well as Stingray City trips, parasailing experiences and Pampered Ponies rides.
The event is free of charge, open to all and there is no need to register or reserve in advance.
