Get away from here pesky lionfish

All seven of the regular readers of the Caymanian Compass newspaper, which as we know exists solely as a vehicle for the mighty Weekender, will have noted that some experts have said that lionfish culling really works and so we should keep doing it.

We like experts almost as much as we like eating lovely fresh fish from the blue Caribbean sea. And therefore we are proud to note that there are many more dives to hunt these rubbish invaders and put them subsequently in our bellies courtesy of Foster’s and various restaurants.

Plus – and we can’t stress this enough – the dives themselves are awesome because they cost hardly any dosh and often visit sites between sites, places which aren’t on the usual dive circuit which can provide some incredible new experiences even for the most seasoned diver.

Note that you need a special license to use a spear, but as we found out when we went, holding the bucket is a lot of fun, too. Get involved! Kudos to the dive community and the operators for coming together to assist with this menace.

All dives cost just $10 unless otherwise noted.
