Education Minister's sentencing put off

Cayman Islands Education Minister Rolston Anglin did not appear in Summary Court Tuesday morning for sentencing as originally scheduled because his matter was administratively adjourned.

Minister Anglin was to have been sentenced for careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol, but the magistrate who is seized of the matter was not sitting. His trial had begun before Magistrate Kirsty-Ann Gunn but he then pleaded guilty.

The magistrate set Tuesday, 19 March, as the new sentencing date.

Defence attorney Steve McField has not yet addressed the court in mitigation. One reason for the original adjournment was Mr. Anglin’s decision to attend a DUI counselling programme before sentencing.
