Students gather under the big top

Law students raised more than $7,000 to refurbish their computer lab by hosting a circus-themed gala.

Around 200 students attended the Truman Bodden Law School Gala – the annual fundraiser organized by the student society.

Governor Helen Kilpatrick, Premier Alden McLaughlin, and Attorney General Sam Bulgin were among the invited guests at the event at the Marriott on March 14.

Tara Bernardo, president of the student society, said, “Last year we managed to raise enough funds to successfully replace three computers and two printers. This year we surpassed all expectations and raised enough funds to complete the renovations of the computer lounge and start the process of introducing smart boards in order to upgrade our teaching facilities.”

The theme for the evening was “vintage circus,” with the décor designed by Lions Production.

“Guests were greeted by our fortune teller whilst sipping on our signature cocktails, the ‘Fire Eater’ and ‘Lion Tamer’ during cocktail hour. They also had a chance to view our contortionist,” said Ms. Bernardo.

The evening also featured a bearded lady and a “slo-motion parkour group.”
