When bodybuilders from around the world hit the stage in Grand Cayman next month, Agueda Broderick will be one of the athletes representing the Cayman Islands.
The WNBF Mr & Ms Universe Bodybuilding & Figure Championships are being held at the Lions Centre on April 19.
They are in conjunction with the INBF Natural Caribbean Grand Prix Bodybuilding & Figure Championships. This means that both amateur and professional competitors will be taking the stage and it is Broderick’s intention to compete for both titles. She will be competing in professional figure as well as in amateur bodybuilding.
Broderick is certainly not new to competition, having been involved in a variety of sports from an early age. ‘My decision to become involved in bodybuilding arose from a desire to build lean muscle, despite already having a slender physique,’ she said.
She has been involved in bodybuilding competitions since 1998, achieving much success along the way. Four years ago saw her competing for the first time in an International Natural Bodybuilding Federation sanctioned event, the Natural Caribbean Grand Prix Bodybuilding & Figure Championships. Broderick took first place in the Figure (Short Class) Division, thus earning a Pro Figure Card. She also placed fourth in the bodybuilding division at the same championships.
As a Pro Figure Competitor Broderick has competed at the Ms Exercise World Figure Championships, Best Body Magazine Swimsuit Contest and Ms Fit Body.
‘I love the exciting and overwhelming feeling of competing drug free and it’s a challenge to see how far I can push myself naturally in achieving what I want out of life and what I am willing to sacrifice to make it all happen’ she said. ‘I am a self-motivated individual; not to mention that I am also a mother of two, Kameronn, who is 15, and Kalie, who is seven, who are also active kids.
‘I encourage everyone to live a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a balanced diet and staying active. This does not necessarily mean working out at the gym but simply doing some form of physical activity.
‘When it comes to exercise, rule number one is that in order to see results and reap health benefits, you must be consistent, determined and set realistic goals!’
Broderick lives by the motto that ‘success is achieved through the four Ds: direction, determination, dedication and discipline’.
Tickets for the event are $15 for the prejudging that will take place at 11am and $25 in advance for the finals taking place at 6pm and are available from all GNC locations, West Bay Pharmacy, Health Care Pharmacy on Walkers Road and Grand Harbour, King’s Express Gym, Body Sculptor Gym, Funky Tangs and Reflections.
