Fingerprinting isn’t necessary

Personally, I do not agree that finger-printing is necessary of either expats or Caymanians, and would imagine the financial burden may well outweigh the benefits.

Following recent media reports, several recorded comments note that fingerprinting in Cayman will be no different to processes that are conducted to enter other countries and cite the USA entry system as a comparison.

Although finger-printing may be required for visa approvals, I have been assured by a US Immigration official that border fingerprinting is different.

Under US law, the fingerprints taken electronically at border crossing entry points are not permitted to be retained.

The electronic fingerprint scan is instantly cross-checked against current finger-print records at the border in determining whether, or not, to permit entry into the USA. Thereafter, it is discarded – hence the reason we have to submit to further fingerprinting at each border crossing. Just thought you might like to know!
