Trinis take one-day title as Barbados collapse

Trinidad and Tobago won the West Indies Cricket Board Cup by defeating Barbados by seven wickets in the limited-overs final.

In a disappointingly low-scoring match, Barbados won the toss and were all out for 142 in the 46th over, and Trinidad had no problems overtaking that total with 143-3 in just 27 overs at Guyana National Stadium.

Trinidad won its second championship in three years, and ninth overall. Barbados were seeking their first title since 2003.

Only middle-order batsmen Jonathan Carter (36) and Dwayne Smith (29) scored more than 20, and both were removed by spinner Sam Badree, who took 3-14 in his 10 overs and ran out Test bowler Tino Best for 1. Medium-pacer Rayad Emrit claimed 3-36, and Sherwin Ganga 2-18 along with a couple of catches.

In reply, Trinidad captain Daren Ganga, 48 not out, and Adrian Barath, with 31, made the chase academic. Darren Bravo chipped in with 20.

Barath, the West Indies under-19s opener, scored a team-best 205 runs in five innings, with two half-centuries.
