Smashing time for street kids

Some of the world’s best tennis
players in history will bring word-class tennis to the streets of downtown
George Town in a free tennis exhibition event on Saturday.

In Cayman for the 2010 Legends
Championships sponsored by Dragon Bay at The Courts at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand
Cayman are Jim Courier, former world No.1 and four-time Grand Slam singles
title winner; Stefan Edberg, former world No.1 in both singles and doubles and
a six-time Grand Slam singles title winner; Marat Safin, former world No.1 and
a two-time Grand Slam singles title winner; Jimmy Arias, former world No.5 and
Grand Slam doubles title winner; Aaron Krickstein, former world No.6 and Grand
Slam semi-finalist; and Mikael Pernfors, former world No.10 and Grand Slam
finalist.

These tennis greats will play for
the public on Albert Panton Street in a new addition to the Legends
Championships event schedule – a Street Tennis exhibition match from
10am-noon.

A temporary court will be set up in
the street itself, which will be blocked off to vehicle traffic. Bleacher
seating will be available, and while the event is completely free to the public
donations will be accepted for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre.  Legends merchandise will also be on sale, and
the pros will be on hand to meet and greet tennis fans and sign some
autographs.

Mike Ryan, developer of Dragon Bay
and The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, said: “We are thrilled to
have such an incredible roster of talent joining us for the 2010 Legends
Championships. Once again, we will be bringing world-class championship level
tennis to the Cayman Islands, featuring truly legendary athletes.”
