Opposition members are
requesting to be put back on the government’s dedicated email address system
after their invitations to an official function went missing in cyberspace.
As government members
prepared to leave a Legislative Assembly meeting to attend a ceremony marking
the inaugural WestJet flight from Toronto to Cayman on Thursday, People’s
Progressive Movement member Alden McLaughlin said Opposition members had not
been invited.
When the meeting
resumed, Premier McKeeva Bush said the government did not deliberately omit PPM
politicians from the invitation list. He read a statement from Gina Matthews,
public relations manager in the Department of Tourism, which explained that she
had sent invitations to all PPM members of the Legislative Assembly and to
independent member Ezzard Miller.
However, emails sent to
the Leader of the Opposition Kurt Tibbetts, Mr. McLaughlin, Arden McLean and
Moses Kirkconnell, bounced back because she had sent them to the members’
former gov.ky email addresses. The members no longer have access to that email,
dating to when they were voted out of government office in May 2009.
“During our tenure in
government, all members of the Legislative Assembly had government emails,”
said East End opposition MLA Mr. McLean. “Now, I would implore the premier to
ensure that those emails are reinstated in order that we don’t get these kinds
of mistakes in the future.”
Mr. Bush said he would
look into the matter and “add it to the long, long, long list of things I have
to do”.
At this point in the
discussion, Speaker of the House Mary Lawrence stepped in and said she would
ask the clerk of the Legislative Assembly to send the email addresses of all
assembly members to the Protocol Office to be circulated to all government
departments.

There are no emails for the opposition? ELECTED MEMBERS! You have got to be joking!
The compass reported that Gina Matthews Public Relations manager had sent the email invitation to their .ky email addresses. The report also stated that the emails bounced back. Was she just testing 1, 2 ?
The premier is taking responsibility to ensure this problem is resolved?
Were we all born behind a cow behind or what?
1. When emails bounce back it is immediately after being sent to the email address. When the emails bounced back Why did Ms. Gina Matthews not followup with a phone call to the PPM Leader, Mr. McLaughlin and Mr. Moses Kirkconnell. Any office clerk even a messenger would have followed up with a phone call to ensure the safe delivery of a very important email such as this one. IT WAS AN INVITATION, There is always a followup when inviting government officials to any and all occasions.
I suppose they should apologize to the PPM members, this just shows the low level of moral that exists in our Legislature and administration it is a shame.
I believe this was deliberate. UDP vindictiveness at its best. AND DISRESPECTFUL;!
