Breeze $2k helps hungry Lions

The Breeze Fusion two mile walk and run was not just a success turn out wise, it also raised plenty for two worthy causes, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and the Lions’ Club of Grand Cayman Children’s Christmas Social.

The event was organised by Radio Cayman, Breeze FM and the Phoenix Athletic Club. It was held from the John Gray High School in Walkers Road on Saturday and a lot of generous people showed up to help make it a success.

Radio Cayman’s Paulette Conolly-Bailey said: “We raised over $2,000 in monetary funds which comprised registration fees and cash donations.

After expenses, the NCVO received $500 and Lions Club of Grand Cayman $600. We would like to give more funds to our charities next year, so we are going to have a bigger pre-registration drive with some fun twists and perks when you sign up before race day.

“It is my desire to see more young people from the schools across the Island and the various sporting clubs participating to show civic pride. We pledged $500 for NCVO no matter what happens on the support of the race and that was done at their Telethon. Their money comes out first every year. On the actual race day specific people gave donations along with their registration and some people had registered but didn’t walk especially since we were supporting the Lions Children event.

“Radio Cayman and Breeze FM has our com-munity at heart and we love our listeners and supporters who participate to make the event a success. Special thanks again to Roma United Football Club for supporting the event since inception, LIME Communications who has been especially active with community initiatives, The Caymanian Compass, Cayman Active and Andy Bonner, Zulu, distributors of Red Bull, Fiji Water, Dairy Queen, Funky Tangs, Cayman Prep School and Cayman National Bank. Special thanks also to our donors who provided all the wonderful door prizes, as well as coach Jerry Harper and his team at The Phoenix Athletic Club for assisting us again this year.”
