The RCIPS Financial Crime Unit is warning residents not to be drawn into a scam designed to prey on people looking for a new pet.
Last week, an advert appeared in the Caymanian Compass advertising a female Yorkshire terrier for sale. A number of people responded to the ad and were told that the puppy was overseas and money would need to be forwarded through Western Union in advance for shipping and insurance costs.
Police say this is a scam, designed to trick people into paying for services that they will never receive. Detectives are looking into the scam; however cons of this type are notoriously difficult to investigate, said a RCIPS press release.
Anyone who has responded to the advert should contact the Financial Crimes Unit.
