Ms Elizabeth Charles, a 2007 graduate of Triple C School, is the recipient of the first Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Leader Award.
This is the first time the Chamber has sponsored an award at Triple C School. The award will be presented annually at the school’s graduation ceremony.
Chamber President Ms Angelyn Hernandez presented the award to Ms Charles and congratulated her on her recent achievements.
Ms Charles graduated this year after exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities at the school for several years. She was involved with student government for all of her high school years as class representative, treasurer and finally president of the Student Council. Her extra-curricular activities included a passion for dance and the arts and she has received many awards from the National Children’s Festival of the Arts. Miss Charles was also a pioneer of teen radio in Cayman as a host of the teen programme, The Skoop Show hosted by Vibe 98.9. She was also a teen journalist for Skoop Magazine. This coming year will find Miss Charles following her calling to missionary work with Youth With a Mission, which includes a trip to China for her training.
Mrs. Marjorie Ebanks, Principal at Triple C explains the reasoning behind this year’s award: “Awards are sometimes created with criteria and then we search for people who fit those criteria, but often people by their life and example propel us to find a way to honour them. Three awards of this nature have been created at Triple C School because of students who, with no thought for reward, stood out tall among their classmates in a special way. Such is the Outstanding Leader Award. This award was created for the first time as we observed a young lady who had more organisational expertise, more persuasive power, more ability to mobilize, and more willingness to work than are found in most adults. There was no award at Triple C that fit that particular description. Therefore the Outstanding Leader Award was created for the first time and graciously sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in 2007.”
Ms Charles received a plaque for Outstanding Leader and a cheque for CI$200 from the Chamber of Commerce. Other awards that the Chamber of Commerce sponsored this year include the Technology Award and the Home Economics Award for John Gray High School as well as several awards for graduating students at St. Ignatius Catholic School.
