Another arrest after UCCI violence

A teenager suspected of assaulting a University College of the Cayman Islands student in a campus bathroom on 10 September has been arrested.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said the 18-year-old student and the 17-year-old suspect started fighting in the bathroom around 8.30am. School officials said it was noticed the student had a serious head injury after the fight spilled into the hallway and a security guard broke it up.

The student was hospitalised last week and was expected to be flown to Miami for further observation.

School President Hassan Syed told the Caymanian Compass that the person suspect of striking the 18-year-old student had formerly attended UCCI. Mr. Syed also said reports he had received indicated the two were fighting because of a previous argument over a girl.

RCIPS officials would not confirm or deny either of those statements.

A day after the 10 September fight, police said two more UCCI students were assaulted in the campus cafeteria. That fight ended up in the school’s parking lot.

Two men, aged 23 and 24 have been arrested in connection with that incident.
