Police, fire departments deserve praise

Please allow me to say a gigantic thank you to the men and women of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Department and the Cayman Islands Fire Department.

Aqua Beach Restaurant and Next Level Nightclub suffered from a terrible act of mischief in which a thatched-roof, jerk-chicken stand, affectionately known as Lyrics, was set ablaze in the early hours of Sunday 29 May.

The response from emergency teams was so quick and effective that the damage was restricted to only a small portion of the entire thatched dining area and no major damage ensued.

If not for the coordination and hard work of the fire and police departments I sincerely feel the situation would have been a lot worse.

They first worked diligently on the flames to ensure everyone’s safety, and have since done a tremendous job trying to solve this senseless crime.

Too often people place the blame and point fingers at these hard-working women and men due to the criminal activity of others. The focus should be on those responsible for breaking the law, not those enlisted to keep it.

The hard-working women and men from these departments wake up each day to expect the worst and face the challenges in making our world a safer place. For this, we all owe our thanks.

We can all make a difference in the community and should take every chance we have to assist and respect the people working hard to protect us.

I personally would like to thank the police and fire departments on behalf of myself, my business partners, staff and the landlord of the property for their time and consideration and please keep up the good work.
