As part of ongoing visits to area schools, the Minister of Education Alden McLaughlin spent time with the students of Red Bay Primary on 8 June.
Accompanied by Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts and MLA Lucille Seymour, the group received a warm welcome from staff and students, said a GIS press release.
‘Walking through the classrooms and seeing so many of our young people engaged in the learning process filled my heart with pride,’ said Mr. McLaughlin. ‘It was also a pleasure to meet some of the Caymanian teachers – some veterans and some newcomers – that are part of our education system. This is a good sign that our school leavers are considering careers in this field, something we hope to see more of in the future.’
Earlier that day, the Minister and Permanent Secretary Joy Basdeo toured the George Town Primary compound and met with staff. They discussed the serious issues of rebuilding the school so it could be returned to its full complement of students.
‘Anyone who has been around that school knows that there is much work needed before we can allow more students to attend,’ said Mr. McLaughlin. ‘It is a matter of urgency that we do the necessary repairs and give this school the priority it deserves. Our students deserve the best education we can offer, and it is our intention to ensure that we do all we can to provide this.’
