Advocate Health Care of Illinois has rallied to the needs of one local primary school.
Advocate has been a frequent visitor to the island for nearly 20 years, having set up a captive insurance company in 1988.
When Scott Beckman, Director of Risk Management at Advocate, heard of the needs of Savannah Primary School – whose library had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan – he took it upon himself to organize a book drive at Advocate.
‘I cannot thank Scott enough for his extensive time and effort in organizing this,’ said Seamus Tivnan of Marsh Cayman, which manages Advocate’s Cayman based captive insurance company.
‘After Ivan, I lot of people offered help, and many were a life line for us. Some offers, however, diminished as we moved farther away from the event and perceptions were that we no longer needed help. Scott persevered in his efforts to organize this book drive, even whilst his organization was responding to other major relief efforts, such as the December Tsunami.’
Savannah Primary School PTA president Mark Scotland thanked both for the contribution.
‘It is sincerely appreciated. I would also like to thank Cayman Airways for their assistance in providing shipping for the books from Chicago.’
