Room stock grows

Room stock on all three islands is projected to be at 58 per cent of pre-Ivan numbers by the end of this month.

As of 23 September there was only 39.45 per cent of the pre-Ivan total of bedrooms on all three islands licensed (for hotels, apartments and guesthouses).

However, with apartments and guesthouses going through the annual licensing renewal process, the numbers are expected to increase by the end of the month, according to the Department of Tourism.

As of 23 September the number of licensed hotel bedrooms on Grand Cayman was 1,341; on Cayman Brac 171; and on Little Cayman 51. That makes the total of licensed hotel bedrooms on all three islands at 1,563. The total number of apartments and guest houses licensed bedrooms is at 481. This brings the total number of rooms to 2,044, or 39.45 per cent of total pre-Ivan rooms.

Of the 5,181 pre-Ivan room stock figure for all three islands, by December there should be 4,173, (or 81 per cent) of licensed bedrooms available (for hotels, guesthouses and apartments), according to projections.

It is projected that by March 2006 there should be 4,854 licensed bedrooms in total available on all three islands, or 94 per cent of the pre-Ivan figure of 5,181.

Projections for licensed hotel bedrooms show that on all three islands by December there should be 94.81 per cent of pre-Ivan hotel rooms available: that is 2,375 out of 2,505 rooms.

By March 2006 there is projected to be 99.21 per cent of pre-Ivan hotel bedrooms licensed: 2,487 out of 2,505.

Of the 2,241 pre-Ivan licensed apartments, by December projections show that there should be 1,466 or 65.42 per cent of licensed bedrooms available in apartments. By March 2006 that figure should jump to 2,027 bedrooms or 90.45 per cent.

The total number of pre-Ivan licensed guesthouse bedrooms was 435 and projections show that by December there should be 332 (or 76.32 per cent) licensed and available. By March 2006 there should be 340 (or 78.16 per cent) licensed bedrooms in guesthouses.
