Digicel sets up Haiti managers

Digicel has announced the appointment of the senior management team for its Haitian operations.

In June, Digicel was awarded a license to operate a GSM license in Haiti, following a tender process with onefone, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Haitian GB Group. The Digicel Haiti team is lead by Ghada Gebara as chief executive officer, with Bernard Yacoub serving as chief technology officer and Issa Touma as chief financial officer.

Ghada Gebara brings to Digicel more than seven years experience and expertise in mobile technology and wireless services having held senior positions at Asiacell, a major mobile phone provider in Iraq and CELLIS (France Telecom Mobile Lebanon) in Beirut, Lebanon. As chief executive officer for Digicel’s Haitian operations, Gebara is responsible for developing Digicel Haiti into the country’s leading mobile telecommunications provider, offering affordable and innovative mobile communications products throughout the country, states a press release.

Digicel Haiti’s new CTO, Bernard Yacoub, joins Digicel with comprehensive experience in telecommunications technology. Previously he served as Strategic Operations and Network Planning & Optimisation Manger for Ericsson in Algeria and spent six years as Switching Engineer and Technical Performance Manager for France Telecom Lebanon. In his new role he will be responsible for managing technical operations and deployment for Digicel Haiti.

With 25 years in accounting, Issa Touma, Digicel Haiti CFO, is a seasoned financial expert and a certified management accountant. Most recently he served as vice CFO for Asiacell in Iraq.

With investments in the Caribbean exceeding well over $US600 million, Digicel recently reached a milestone of 1,051 employees in its fourth year of operation. The Company anticipates a 30 percent increase in staff by the end of 2006, due to subscriber growth and market expansion.
