The finals for local flag football will feature two clubs seeking a repeat championship.
Both the Hammerheads Lady Sharks and the dms Hellcats were winners in 2010. Hammerheads are after their second straight title in the Dart Women’s League finals (put on by the Grand Caymanian Flag Football League). Hellcats seek their third consecutive triumph in the Island Air Flag Football League (put on by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association).
Hellcats are coming off an emotional 13-6 over-time victory over arch-rivals the Calabash Soldiers. Leading up to the contest, there had been much talk about Calabash being the lone team to beat dms this season. A strong performance by running back Oliver Parker put that to rest and Parker offered a parting shot for Calabash head coach Johann Moxam.
“This is addressed directly to Johann,” Parker said. “You and your little man complex can take my 80-yard touchdown and a playoff exit.”
Meanwhile the Lady Sharks squeezed by a determined Lone Star Jager Monsters side in the women’s semis. Key players like Bobeth O’Garro and Scimone Campbell led the way though special mention goes to Lilia Conolly for her stellar effort.
Both Hammerheads and dms are slated to play in the finals this Saturday 1 October.
