Career guidance videos to help young Caymanians succeed

The Ministry of Education, Training & Employment, CML Offshore Recruitment and the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals recently signed a memorandum of understanding launching a career guidance video series.

Targeting young Caymanians, the series will provide information about career opportunities available within Cayman’s financial services sector, advice on securing employment, academic prerequisites and scholarship opportunities.

The different paths to be taken in various professions to achieve long-term career goals will also be highlighted.

“CML is delighted to have the support of both the government and the CISHRP in producing the Career Guidance video series,” said Steve McIntosh, CML chief executive officer. “It’s important for young Caymanians to have accurate information on the wide range of career options available to them. We believe this video series is an excellent way to provide high-quality information in an engaging format and through a medium that appeals to young people.

“We now have the task of finding private sector sponsors who are willing to work with us in producing videos for their industry sectors – particularly in the financial industry where we have identified 16 distinct career paths to profile,” Mr. McIntosh said. “As such, I ask those with an interest in helping young Caymanians make good career choices to urge their employers to contact us and find out how they can get involved.”

CML will make no profit from the videos.

To ensure each video appeals to its intended audience they will be modern and engaging with computer-animated titles and graphics. Interviews will be conducted with Caymanians at various levels within each profession, including human resources, executives, partners and recently qualified trainees and students.

The objective is to obtain a holistic view so young Caymanians may acquire a full sense of what each occupation offers. Each segment will run for 5 to 15 minutes depending on the subject being captured.

“CISHRP is excited to partner with the Ministry and CML TV in producing the career guidance series,” said Samantha Nehra, CISHRP president. “Cayman has many career options and we hope the series will raise the profile of other current and future careers both for our residents and visitors.”

Minister for Education, Training & Employment Rolston Anglin said, “I thank CML for leading this project and I have no doubt that this will be a truly beneficial career guidance video series for our youth. It is extremely important to help our young people select the right career path for them, so they will excel and be happy in their chosen profession.

“Through such videos, they can make fully informed decisions and get a true sense of what each profession is all about,” Mr. Anglin said.

Once finalised, the videos will be hosted on YouTube.com. CML plans to make them available for viewing until June 2013, after which they plan to refresh the series.
