Manny Pacquiao has returned to his Philippines homeland and is concentrating on being the best congressman possible representing Sarangani Province.
The Pacman easily outpointed ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley last month in Las Vegas in a WBO welterweight fight he dominated so heavily after knocking the American down in the third that in the last few rounds Mosley admitted he wanted to quit but his trainer, Naazim Richardson, refused to let him do so.
Pacquiao is a national hero, the biggest sportsman there and his profile and popularity grows increasingly with the good work he is doing politically. He wants to build one hospital for each town in his province.
The Aquino administration has helped him jump start this project by allotting millions for the building of a provincial hospital at the capital town of Alabel, which is already under construction.
Pacquiao, 32, also asked the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to donate eight ambulances for Sarangani in exchange for his endorsement. He also gives his support to the inmates at the
prison in Muntinlupa the broadcast network GMA where Pacquiao is a regular guest.
One of the richest men in sport – he earned over $20 million for his routine demolition of Mosley and is worth at least $150m – philanthropic Pacquiao invests a big percentage of his money to build schools, hospitals and to help the poor.
He has all the trappings of vast wealth, including homes in the Philippines and Las Vegas, luxury cars, various businesses and throws big victory parties. His latest buy is a house in Forbes Park, near Makati City where some of the country’s wealthiest families live. A shrewd operator, Pacquiao is also planning to build a mall in General Santos City which will rake him in millions.
