A boat trip to Starfish Point was cut short Friday when one member of the party, who was awaiting PCR test results to travel the next day, was notified that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Public Health confirmed that the individual was found aboard the vessel of a local cruise operator with 25 other passengers and two crew members.

Public Health reassured the public in a press release that initial contact tracing protocols had been carried out and all aboard the vessel had been placed in isolation.

The 27 passengers will be tested in three days and further advised by public health officials.

“I want to thank the crew and passengers for their cooperation with the screening procedures today at the West Bay Yacht Club,” Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Samuel Williams–Rodriguez said.

He instructed the boat trip participants to remain isolated with their households until given advice that they are released.

“In order to complete contact tracing, we will need to have the results of all of those aboard to understand the situation, and after that, we will advise everyone when they can be released. Thank you again for your assistance,” he said.
