In its latest update, the Public Health Department reported 111 new local COVID cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the Cayman Islands to 1,299.
Four travellers also returned positive results, according to the update, which outlined the number of cases in Cayman as of 8am Tuesday, 2 Nov.
NEED TO KNOW
Eight people remain in hospital, with one – a patient who transferred from Cayman Brac to Grand Cayman overnight – requiring supplemental oxygen.
A total of 1,115 PCR tests had been conducted since the last report.
The total number of cases recorded in the Cayman Islands since the start of the pandemic is 2,356, of which 1,055 have recovered.
There are currently 73 positive cases in the Sister Islands, of which 19 are symptomatic, according to the latest update. All but one of the total cases involve community transmission.
Wednesday’s update from Public Health did not include how many of the active cases are symptomatic or how many of those who have tested positive have been vaccinated.
A figure on the number of people in quarantine is also pending.
Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Hazel Brown, in a statement issued Tuesday, noted that of the positive cases reported for the week of 24-30 Oct., 61% were unvaccinated, 3% were partially vaccinated and 36% were fully vaccinated.
Vaccinations
As of Wednesday morning, 116,075 COVID-19 vaccinations had been administered in Cayman. Of these, 56,808 (80% of the estimated population of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 54,613 (77%) have completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 4,654 (representing 24% of those over the age of 50) have had a third, or booster, dose.

I realise HSA staff are under enormous pressure with this outbreak, but at some stage it would be useful to know how many of the positive vaccinated cases are asymptomatic.
Has anyone noticed that once vaccinations started the number of local cases began to increase. In this case does A +B = C ?
WILL MORE VACCINATIONS BRING ON MORE CASES? WILL THE AUTHORITIES CONTINUE DOING THE SAME THING AND EXPECT A DIFFERENT OUTCOME?
61% of these cases are unvaccinated that’s about 792 of the 1,299 cases. If 50% of those people were vaccinated these numbers would have been greatly reduced. Total cases about 1.8% of the Toal population. The 61% is also misleading because it includes children and those unable to be vaccinated. Why is Compass reporting POSITIVE achievements?
Can the Compass please provide a breakdown of how many of the 1,299 are symptomatic / a symptomatic and how many are vaccinated / unvaccinated please and thank you?
So we’re only waiting for Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s total cases, and the all the breakdown’s from the last week that are still listed as pending.
Good job that government were as prepared as they said they were, and how they were expecting this to happen – otherwise we’d be in a right mess. What’s our target for local infections?
