Almost 4,000 people across the Cayman Islands are currently in isolation in their homes or at government facilities as COVID-19 cases continue to increase.
A statement issued on behalf of the Ministry of Health on Friday, 12 Nov., said of the 3,940 people in isolation 2,849 were active cases of COVID-19.
The latest figures issued by Public Health show that 1,708 PCR tests were conducted between 8am Thursday, 9 Nov., and 8am Friday, 12 Nov. Of those tests, 265 persons tested positive. One was a traveller, and the rest were from the community.
“Theses results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 2,849,” reads the statement. “The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic stood at 4,203 as at the same time.”
In addition to the positive PCR test results, a further 1,045 positive lateral flow tests results were reported to public health.
As the number continues to increase, Health Minister Sabrina Turner is reminding the public that all positive lateral flow tests results must be reported.
“Now I know some persons are of the view that if they test positive on the lateral flow test and they do not feel sick, they will NOT report it to Public Health,” said Turner. “But let me say it is an offence to not report a positive, because you are a public health risk once you are positive. So, let’s all be responsible in our actions.”
In Cayman Brac, Faith Hospital confirmed 79 active COVID-19 cases, an increase of two since the numbers were last issued on Thursday, 10 Nov.
“To date, there had been 97 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 18 having recovered,” said the government issued statement. “Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 50 were fully vaccinated, eight were partially vaccinated and, 39 were unvaccinated.”
As of Friday, 57,356 people (81%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 55,157 persons (78%) received their second dose.
The total number of administered COVID-19 vaccines in Cayman is 119,435.
