Levar Wood will have to wait until the end of March to learn his sentence, after initial proceedings for Friday 28 Jan., were delayed, to facilitate the creation of a social inquiry report.
Wood, 27, of George Town, faces a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. The charge stems form a fatal collision on 1 Sept., 2019 which claimed the life of Giovani Berry.
In September 2021, after being extradited from the UK, Wood initially denied the charge and a trial date was set for 11 Oct., however he would later go on to later change this plea.
“Roughly a week before the trial, Mr Wood changed his plea to one of guilty,” said attorney Keith Myers, who represents Wood.
“He accepts that he caused the death of Mr Berry, but he does not accepts the facts as set out by the prosecution because he cannot remember,” said Myers.
A new mention date for Wood’s sentencing has been set for 31 March.
