The Cayman Islands National Weather Service forecasts that for the next 24 hours temperatures across Cayman will drop by about 10 degrees, due to a passing cold front.
In its forecast, which was issued earlier today (Monday 14 Feb.,) the NWS said, “Fresh winds and rough seas are expected across the Cayman area ahead of a cold front just north of our area.”
In addition to a shift in wind direction to the northeast, wind speeds are likely to increase to between 15 and 20 knots with higher gusts, according to the NWS.
Predictions are for a 40% chance of scattered showers through the day and into the night, with temperatures falling to the low 70s after sunset.
The NWS has issued a small craft warning, and also expects wave heights of 5 to 7 feet.
“This front is expected to move over and become stationary over the islands by this morning with weakening expected to begin from overnight,” the forecast said.
