Two groups aboard ‘unseaworthy’ vessels held in quarantine

Two groups of men are being held in quarantine per COVID-19 protocols, after arriving in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac this week, according to a press release from Customs and Border Control on Thursday.

CBC confirmed that, on Wednesday morning, three men arrived in Grand Cayman aboard an “unseaworthy vessel”.

Described as “unwilling and unable to continue their journey”, the men were taken into CBC custody and are being temporarily held in quarantine at the CBC Detention Centre, in accordance with COVID-19 protocols, the release said.

The following day, seven men arrived on Cayman Brac in a vessel also described as “unseaworthy” and also stated they did not wish to continue their journey.

They have been taken into CBC custody on Cayman Brac, to be placed in quarantine and processed in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.

The seven men will eventually be escorted to Grand Cayman, according to the release.
